Steve Johnson-Owner/Coach Steve

When it comes to health and fitness I believe you must have your own purpose and own desire. You need something that motivates you to take action. The one thing you must have in order to succeed is a reason to train. When I first started weight training at 16 years old, I was lucky to be mentored by some of the best powerlifters in the world. I had a chance to witness and learn from the start what it takes to be successful. The one thing we all had in common was a desire to get better-everyday. Focusing on small accomplishments helped motivate me and helped me enjoy the process of training towards seemingly monumental goals. CrossFit exposes your weaknesses, challenges you to be better, provides the platform to start and guides your progression to exploring your unique potential. While challenging, something will draw you back-again and again. It may be the people training with you, your coaches, the challenge of the workouts or your own self motivation that draws you back for more. Regardless, one truth I learned through 28 years “under the bar”: If you do not enjoy the training (for whatever reason is important to you), you will not have the motivation to do all of the things necessary to achieve your goal. At CrossFit RDU, it is our job to help you exploit that motivation. CrossFit RDU is motivated to be better-to help you be better. We enjoy our process of helping clients utilize their unique motivation to focus on their purpose. We always do what is necessary to create an environment that you can thrive in no matter what your personal motivation may be.

Fun Fact: Competitive softball player

Pete Marston-Operations Manager/Coach

PeteI can be described as an former collegiate athlete, coach, former Army Officer, son, husband, brother, etc. In every one of those “roles” someone helped me discover hidden abilities. I am a life long student of health and fitness and I translate both my knowledge and my experiences in ways that help clients discover hidden abilities. That is where the magic happens! In our society, we are all extremely busy with demanding work schedules, family schedules and a multitude of competing priorities. Fitness, and often times, health, takes a backseat to everything else. The fitness industry preys on this dynamic by convincing overburdened minds that low monthly membership costs to pretty gyms are all that is needed to inspire us. At CrossFit RDU, we have a great facility (click here to check it out!), but commitment is driven by an understanding that LIFE is simply better when we are living it to the pinnacle of our genetic potential. I am happiest when I am able to learn new sports, participate in challenging activities, move without pain, eat food that actually fuels the activities I participate in and when I surround myself with inspirational people who also hold me accountable. At CrossFit RDU, you will find a community that supports this. Health, fitness, strength and conditioning: these are things that don’t happen overnight. There are few final destinations in life and in CrossFit, only way points to check direction and keep going-part of a lifelong journey. Goals are not stagnant, they will change as new skills and passions are discovered. Be patient, work within your limits, but push yourself to achieve goals and set new ones. CrossFit RDU embodies the motto: “Mission First, People Always”. Every person arrives at CrossFit RDU with unique skills, personal goals and individual capabilities. Our Mission is to help you explore your potential, not to make you perform like any other person. We achieve this mission daily. We make our clients stronger and better conditioned.

Fun Fact: Weakness for ice cream

David Lynn-Coach

David CrossFit RDU will remind you that if you want something, you can’t just talk about it, you need to do something about it. God only gave us one body and I believe He wants us to take care of it the best we can. At CrossFit RDU we truly care about helping you better yourself through CrossFit and proven Strength and Conditioning methodologies. We have a great community of athletes who not only encourage me to be the strongest, fastest, and most fit I have ever been in, but more importantly, our community encourages everyone to be stronger, faster and more fit. Our clients find lifelong friendships that would never develop at a normal gym. As a coach, I assure our clients safely reach goals and improve themselves not only physically, but mentally and emotionally as well… all while having fun along the way. Additionally, I serve as that extra push to help push through perceived limits and reach new levels that might have otherwise have thought to be impossible. There’s nothing better than seeing the look on a persons face after helping them succeed. Being stronger and more conditioned impacts how you feel, how people perceive you when you walk into a room, how often you get sick, how you feel about yourself when you look in the mirror, how you choose to refuel your body and how you perform my daily activities. Being strong and conditioned improves all  these areas. CrossFit RDU will provide you the team you need to continually improve and reach your goals. Your new team will encourage you to be stronger, faster, more fit and grow your abilities. The new challenges will help you gain more focus in all other areas of your life.

Fun Fact: Makes “award winning” apple dumplings

Meredith Buckner-Coach

MeredithThere are many people who are not happy with how they look, feel, move, and live, but by striving to be more healthy and more fit we can greatly alter the way we feel about ourselves and perceive ourselves. There are so many things in life that we have no control over, but we absolutely have control over the way we treat our bodies. By working smart to combine a fitness regimen that is challenging, fun, exciting, and dynamic with a diet that provides the nutrients required to build and sustain your body, you will see your efforts be truly rewarded. I always played sports and had a taste for competition. I was a competitive swimmer and soccer player through high school as well as an amateur cyclist, triathlete, and water skier. During and after college, my activity level dropped dramatically. I eventually settled on distance running as my exercise of choice. I really didn’t enjoy running and I was riddled with overuse injuries. I found CrossFit and immediately fell in love. It was exactly what I had been missing. It provided me with a new challenge every day and a healthy way to compete with myself and others. There is always something to learn and ways to improve, which is what keeps me coming back for more! The strength I gained permeates every aspect of my life. It’s exciting for me to look back at where I started and dream about what I have yet to achieve. I love seeing people improve. I love seeing the way people light up when they surpass personal records, achieve a personal goal, get a first pull-up or complete a workout for the first time. I love the way that true fitness allows people to transform, to tap into an unknown physical and mental potential. Fitness does not happen overnight and athleticism is an acquired skill, but with patience and hard work you can achieve your goals and tap into your full potential as an athlete! CrossFit RDU provides a safe and effective environment to achieve your fitness goals. We strive to build strength and conditioning while engraining safe and efficient movement patterns. The community atmosphere is exciting and will push the limits of what you thought was possible. There are new challenges every day and always something to learn! My goals as a coach are to share my passion for fitness and health and to help others reach their full potential!

Fun Fact: ALWAYS laughs at the ridiculous jokes her husband (Chase) makes!

Laura Marston-Coach/CrossFit Kids

Laura Born and raised on a Farm in Southwest Minnesota, my love for fitness started at an early age with my first workouts – hours in the field with my Dad picking rock- mixed with a little ‘Get-In Shape Girl’ and yard exercise routines (boombox included). Totally sounds like CrossFit, right? I grew up playing sports and being active. After graduating from Gustavus Adolphus College, I started a full time career in healthcare consulting. As a traveling professional, I’m keenly aware of the challenges related to squeezing in workouts while on the road. Prior to CrossFit, my fitness routine mainly consisted of running, biking, swimming, sprint triathlons, and whatever crazy workouts my former Army (Infantry Officer) husband would drag me into. Eventually, I fell prey to the working professionals workout routine-30mins on an elliptical and a few free weights-I wasn’t seeing any results. I found CrossFit RDU in 2010 and have been hooked ever since. CrossFit RDU completely changed my perception – working out is no longer about appearance or putting in time. It is all about performance, getting stronger, setting goals and the incredible feeling of accomplishment and camaraderie that comes from doing something that pushes my limits. I believe that CrossFit is an incredible foundation for kids and families to discover their potential, build confidence and to begin to associate health and fitness with fun. My goal is to help kids and families connect with each other through fitness. CrossFit is more than a physical activity, it simulates families to try new things, build unique memories, connect with new people and explore potential. Whether focused on development for Sports Performance or general fitness, the foundations developed through CrossFit help set families on the path to health and wellness-physically, emotionally and socially. Past Sports/Events/Activities: Basketball, Volleyball, Track, running, cycling, Rugged Maniac, Half Marathon, Sprint Triathlons, Slalom Waterskiing.

Krista Wyman-Coach/CrossFit Kids

KristaFitness is an important part of who I am as a teacher, as a mom and as a person. For me, fitness has been a lifelong commitment. I do not believe it should be a random, once in a while thing. While I don’t have to be the fastest or the strongest in order to feel I’m at my best – I believe that to be my best, I have to remain committed and dedicated to the fundamentals I’ve come to associate with CrossFit. Even when I don’t “feel like it” or when life chaos makes me feel unmotivated, fitness remains my outlet – my recharge and my lifeline to clarity and fulfillment. I know that life is busy for everyone, but with effort I’ve found it’s not too busy for fitness. I have witnessed how fitness changes people. I’ve seen it in their sense of pride, in the attitude towards what they once thought was impossible and in their self-confidence. Fitness changes more than physical lines and personal ability. It changes your perceptions of everything that’s possible in life. That is a big deal! There are many CrossFit gyms- but CrossFit RDU is unique. At CrossFit RDU learn how to do things right. You are welcomed by coaches and members alike, as a valued athlete and friend – no matter what your fitness level is on day 1. You will feel like you belong and are respected for your willingness to work with us, side-by-side. Each day, you will leave knowing you worked hard and were pushed in a smart and effective way. We explain the movements and help you master the techniques that are so important to your new level of fitness. My goals are simple. To change your self-perception and physical abilities through consistent effort. To facilitate a focused and safe plan of action that centers on hard work as the most important ingredient To eliminate the word “CAN’T” from your vocabulary. Athletic Interests: Road races, Triathlons, duathalons, coaching cheerleading and cross country

Fun Fact: Born and raised in Canada-ehh!

Diana Ceron-Coach/Olympic Lifting

DIanaFitness goes far beyond just making you look good. It improves your health and well-being, quality of life and self-esteem. I believe fitness should be fun and enjoyable, something to look forward to, and something that leaves you feeling satisfied and successful. My passion has always been physical fitness! From the time I was eight years old, I have been training as an athlete. In my native Colombia, I trained as a track and field athlete, a tennis competitor, and later competed for six years on the National Weightlifting Team while earning my degree in physical therapy at the School of National Sports in Cali, Colombia. After coming to the United States on a track and field scholarship for St. Augustine University, I earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Performance and Wellness. I am a certified USA Weightlifting coach and am currently training for the American Open. My partner, Track and Field runner Edgar Bermudez, and I are hoping to teach our three year old daughter, Ashley, the same love of sports and competition that we both enjoy. I really enjoy my time at Crossfit RDU because it has become my second family. Every time I train or coach one of my classes, I feel the appreciation and love for our clients and my co-workers. The support Crossfit RDU has given me has been so valuable because it has shown me that I can do what I love to do, be a better coach, and inspire people every day to keep working hard to reach their goals while I reach for mine.

Nikki Prier-Coach

NikkiHealth and fitness mean something different to everyone. As a college softball player, I thought that I lived a healthy lifestyle, but I realized something needed to change when I gained a lot of weight shortly after completing my undergraduate degree. My weight loss journey started with a “globo gym” which didn’t help me at all. I sought something different and I found it with CrossFit. CrossFit helped me achieve my health goals and fulfilled my competitive desire. As an athlete and coach, I understand CrossFit is a tool that helps you train for life…. “You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.”

My progression into CrossFit led to positive mental, physical and emotionally changes. I found myself being challenged every day even as I became more healthy. As a coach, my goal is to help you make the changes you are looking for. I remember what it felt like to complete my first workout and achieve my first personal records…those are feelings everyone should experience. The first steps to achieving goals starts with determining what your goals are then focusing on proper technique and safety. Helping other people recognize their goals and start the same journey I am on is what inspires me. CrossFit RDU provides the facility, equipment and great coaches to help you reach your goals. As an added benefit, the amazing community at CrossFit RDU is extremely supportive of one another. The coaches, as well as the athletes, work to push each other and grow to be better every day.
